The closest of the big resorts to Denver: I-70 to Frisco, then south up Highway 9 into Breckenridge.
From DIA or the city we take I-70 west through the Eisenhower–Johnson tunnel, leave the interstate at Frisco and follow Highway 9 along Dillon Reservoir into Breckenridge. It is a shorter mountain drive than Vail and the same winter road, with the same reasons to let someone else do it.
